Responsibilities:
Work will be performed at the AEDC White Oak Site.
With direct guidance and oversight from experienced personnel in the AEDC White Oak Projects Team, the successful candidate will provide general optical technical support for schlieren, laser, temperature-sensitive-paint (TSP) photography and other optical systems for AEDC Tunnel 9 and associated laboratories.
Primary Duties: The following is a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities for this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support AEDC White Oak. All tasks will be performed with on-the-job training and direct supervision and monitoring of experienced White Oak personnel.
Alignment, setup, and operation of Tunnel 9 schlieren and TSP optical systems to support hypersonic wind-tunnel test programs
Maintenance of schlieren and TSP system mirrors, lenses and other optical components
Post-processing of schlieren image data including labeling and production of movies
Maintain inventory of optical system supplies and chemicals
Provide direct photographic coverage of hardware setups and installations
Assist in setup of all laser/photography systems including high-energy laser optical experiments
Maintenance of all laser systems, Class II - Class IV, including high-speed copper-vapor laser system
Cleaning and proper storage of precision optical lenses and hardware
Organization of tool kits and optical mounting hardware
Active participant in the design and upgrade of various systems to continually improve capability and performance.
Follow, maintain, and author operating procedures for the various optical systems in cooperation with projects team personnel
It is a condition of employment to wear company issued PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) in accordance with supervisory direction and company policy.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Two (2) years of college education in related area or two (2) years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Optical training
Fundamentals of geometric and physical optics
Proper handling of precision optical components
Operation of optical equipment (cameras, illumination sources, etc.)
Photography
Familiarity with basic digital photography
Familiarity with photographic lighting setups
Mathematics
High school level algebra, geometry, and trigonometry
Science
High school level science (physics and chemistry)
Computer skills
Basic computer skills including the ability to learn and use various software packages
Windows operating system
Highly Desirable Education and Skill Capabilities:
Safe use of lasers and Ultra-Violet light sources
Linux operating-system familiarity
Labview basics familiarity
Fortran and C++ language familiarity
Basic computer architecture
Computer and network hardware installation
Basic electricity and electronics
Must be able to read, write and speak English well enough to understand, give and take directions.

Attendance:
Regular attendance is essential to the efficient operation of ATA and is a necessary condition of employment. Each employee will be expected to adhere to the work schedule established by his/her supervisor and comply with the company's attendance policy. Overtime may be required to meet work schedules at an approximate rate up to 10%. Employees are expected to report to work at the scheduled time, return from breaks promptly, and depart work not earlier than the end of the scheduled day. Compliance with safety rules and safe work practices is an essential function of the job.
